Global military spending has reached a record-breaking $2.887 trillion in 2025, marking the 11th consecutive year of growth, according to the latest SIPRI report.

India has emerged as the 5th largest military spender, increasing its defence budget by 8.9% to $92.1 billion. The surge comes amid rising geopolitical tensions, especially the India-Pakistan conflict in May 2025, which involved combat aircraft, drones, and missile strikes during Operation Sindoor.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s military spending jumped 11% to $11.9 billion, driven by defence deals with China.

The top 5 spenders — US, China, Russia, Germany, and India — account for 58% of global military expenditure, totaling $1.686 trillion.

While US spending dropped 7.5%, Europe saw a 14% surge, and Asia-Oceania recorded an 8.1% rise, signaling a global arms race fueled by wars, uncertainty, and rising security threats.
