Farout — Further Out 1979 (Finland, Progressive-Jazz Rock)
During their allotted time (1977-1982), the members of the Lappeenranta sextet "Farout" accomplished at least two important things: becoming the best prog band of the spring of 1978 and recording a full-length LP at Helsinki's Birdland Studios. The guys were quite fortunate in their sound engineer: the seasoned professional Dan Tigerstedt made no distinction between newcomers and veterans. Adhering to truly democratic principles, he created a comfortable working environment for the newcomers, then dutifully recorded the proceedings on 8-track equipment for five days. Another important element of the process was the participation of horn player Pekka Pöyry. Before his untimely death in 1980, this luminary of the Scandinavian scene collaborated with the legendary Tasavallan Presidentti, Jukka Tolonen's band, and the cult composer and multi-tasker Pekka Pohjola. It's clear that this seasoned figure wouldn't have chosen to accompany anyone.
