Experts urge vaccination for adults, elderly
Health experts urge adults, particularly the elderly, to stay up to date with recommended vaccinations to protect against serious infectious diseases. Speaking at a press conference on April 29, 2026 in Mandaluyong City, Dr. Lulu Bravo, executive director of the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination, emphasized that infectious diseases like influenza and pneumonia were not just seasonal ailments but were significant threats that could lead to severe complications, especially in older adults. She encouraged families to prioritize the health of their elderly members, citing vaccines' ability to reduce medical costs and improve longevity. In line with the observance of World Immunization Week, Mercury Drugs announced that its 'Vax Saturdays' initiative would be offered daily from April 29 to May 5 in select branches. The initiative offers vaccines against influenza, pneumonia, and human papillomavirus for individuals aged 18 and above, along with free medical consultations. Vaccination requires a prescription, which may be issued by an on-site doctor. Pre-registration is available online to ensure vaccine availability.
