A Scottish content creator has turned classic British treats into deep-fried curiosities, putting everything from Colin the Caterpillar cakes to caviar to the test.
Darren Dowling, 29, from Galsglow, Scotland, filmed the unusual experiments as part of his long-running “Will It Deep Fry?” project.
This time, the focus is on British favourites and unexpected luxury items including an Irn-Bru French Fancy, retro sweets, Lidl bakery goods, Aunt Bessie’s products, a 12-inch sausage and even caviar.
Darren has made a name for himself by frying foods most people would never dream of putting in hot oil.
From nostalgic supermarket treats to high-end delicacies, the series highlights just how unpredictable and sometimes bizarre deep-frying can be.
He said: “I’ve never worked out how many calories I consumed… mostly because I’m too scared to and also because I’m very lazy.”
“It must be in the hundreds of thousands at this point though.”
“I’m mega proud of coming up with a format that clearly STILL resonates with people.”
