Romans 12:19-13:7 - Coals and Crowns

There are several different views of what Paul meant when he said that we would heap coals of fire on our enemies heads by doing good to them, but whatever he meant it must include the ideas that we should do good to them and not seek vengeance (as opposed to restitution and justice) for wrongs done to us. That's God's job, and he has delegated much of that responsibility to civil government.

Paul goes on in chapter 13 to talk about our relationship to governing authorities, and there are different views of what he meant by this too. Ultimately, it still comes down to respecting authorities within their spheres of delegated authority and still obeying God's commandments regardless of what men say.
