Future Easter Eggs To SimCity In Double Dragon Arcade ('87)? Super Mario Bros. Links

There are apparently many unusual easter eggs contained in the Technos Double Dragon video games (1987+). Here I mention a possible future nod to the SimCity city building game created by Will Wright & Maxis.

I thought some of Double Dragon's music (in the Mission 2: "Industrial Area" & Mission 3: "Woods" zone) very similar in-style, to that heard in sequel SimCity 2000, released in 1993.

Other clues to support this theory in the Double Dragon games: Note the collections of steel beams in Mission 2 (commonly used in the construction of modern buildings). Double Dragon II: The Revenge in 1988, has more of these raw materials, including bricks & cut logs. At the end of Mission 3, the bosses descend down an elevator on the side of a skeletal framework (or scaffolding) of metal beams.

Hints of the title "Double Dragon" can be seen in SimCity. One of the random disasters that hinders the growth of the player's metropolis are monster attacks. A giant lizard or dinosaur (similar to Godzilla) is one such creature you have to watch out for.

In another video I talked about Double Dragon's appearance in road trip adventure movie, The Wizard ('89), which features many references to Nintendo video games. Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto was a big fan of the game and personally involved in cutting the deal to bring it to the company's new console the Super Famicom / Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The original giant lizard monster was swapped out with Bowser from Super Mario Bros. in the console release. Reaching 500,000 population also allowed players to build a Mario statue in their city.
