Expansion of danger zone around Mayon needs to be studied — DOST
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. says the expansion of the danger zones in Bicol needs to be assessed further as Mayon continues its non-explosive eruption. In an interview with _The Manila Times_, Solidum said that proposals to extend the six-kilometer permanent danger zone around the Mayon Volcano hinged on whether the accumulated volume of deposit on the volcano’s slopes was sufficient to travel further. Solidum said the current monitoring parameters did not justify the need to raise the alert level to 4.
