In May, 2026, it appears Cuba will top America's Executive agenda following the recent military operations in Iran. President Trump has hinted many times over recent months that he plans to use his directive to intervene in the Caribbean island nation's 70 year old communist governance.
Movies that may show Cuba & something about the near present:
- Back To The Future ('85-'90) Trilogy of time travel films. 2015 is shown in Part 2, the year President Trump was first elected (we are still in this cycle). Perhaps a clue to recent events in Iran, in the Cafe '80's an avatar of Iranian religious leader, the Ayatollah & former President Reagan try to convince Marty to order a different dish.
- Lea Thompson was also in Red Dawn in 1984, a "war at home" story about how teenagers took a stand against a Soviet invasion in small town USA.
- Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey starred in that and were later in romance Dirty Dancing in 1987. The sequel: 2004's Havana Nights takes place in Cuba's capitol.
- Actress January Jones appeared in that movie and played mutant Emma Frost in another film set in Cuba: 2011 Marvel comic book original story X-Men: First Class.
- Jennifer Lawrence became a well known actress after her role as Mystique in X-Men and was then in dystopian series The Hunger Games staring in 2012. A new addition: Sunrise On The Reaping is due out in November.
