US President Donald Trump on May 7, 2026 tells reporters that he had been briefed on hantavirus, following an outbreak on a cruise ship, and that he hoped it was very much under control. In total, five people are confirmed to have contracted the virus, with another three suspected cases, the World Health Organization said. Hantavirus is usually spread by rodents but can in rare cases be transmitted person-to-person.
