Anti-Israel protesters clashed with police near one of New York’s most prominent Modern Orthodox synagogues on Tuesday, shouting slogans like, “Long live the intifada” and “We don’t want no two states, we want all of it,” while comparing NPYD officers to the KKK. The pro-Palestinian demonstrators included some Orthodox Jews who are critical of Zionism.
Police kept the crowd a half-block away from the synagogue entrance. The synagogue was hosting an event to promote American real estate purchases in Israel and Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. Dozens of pro-Israel counter-protesters also assembled at the site, with some shouting, “There is no Palestine.”
