A 17-year-old college student died and three others were critically injured after a Mahindra Thar allegedly lost control and ran over students in Karnataka’s Raichur district.
The incident took place in Sindhanur town when the students were reportedly returning home after attending college.
The deceased has been identified as Bhumika (17), a resident of Aragonimara Camp in Sindhanur. She died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.
The injured students — Meghana, Maheshwari, and Jahida — were rushed to a private hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Police said their condition remains critical.
According to preliminary investigation, the driver of the Mahindra Thar allegedly attempted to reverse the vehicle recklessly at high speed, causing it to lose control and move backward into the students walking on the road.
The entire incident was reportedly captured on nearby CCTV cameras, which are now being examined by police as part of the investigation.
Officials said initial findings suggest driver negligence as the primary cause of the accident.
Police from the Sindhanur Traffic Police Station visited the spot, conducted an inspection, and took the driver into custody.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
