According to the Congressional Budget Office, the missile defense initiative known as Golden Dome, proposed by President Trump, could total $1.2 trillion over two decades, which is nearly seven times the initial estimate of $175 billion mentioned by Trump. This system would necessitate around 7,800 satellites and four layers of defense, including 35 new regional installations, with 70% of the costs for acquisition focused on space-based interceptors. The CBO also cautioned that even if Golden Dome is fully operational, it may not fully shield the US from all nuclear missiles in the event of a large-scale assault from nations like Russia or China.
