Düde Dürst – Krokodil Solo 1970 (Switzerland, Krautrock-Psychedelic-Progressive Rock-Fusion)
The debut solo album by the drummer of the Swiss band Krokodil. Two instrumental kraut-inspired pieces, recorded in April 1970 at Zurich's SM Studio.As one of the founders of the legendary Swiss band Krokodil, drummer DÜDE DÜRST was an instrumental creative force in putting Switzerland on the map within the context of the contemporary Krautrock scene that was taking off in Germany. By blending their own style of blues, folk, rock 'n' roll and heavy psych with progressive rock, the band existed from 1969 to 1973 and focused on compositions arranged around bluesy guitar and bass along with other instruments such as the violin, sitar and piano. After two albums with Krokodil, DÜRST took time off to write and record a solo record that focused more on the percussion without jettisoning the his psychedelic Krautrock style from his main band.
DÜRST released only one solo album during his stint with Krokodil efficiently and logically titled KROKODIL SOLO. Despite being a solo effort with DÜDE posing all rock star like on the cover, three extra musicians were employed which included Brew Bruckner on guitar, Terry Stevens on bass, piano and additional percussion along with Jonas Häfeli on flute and soprano saxophone. This 1971 released ventured into the heady kosmisch-sphere with two sprawling tracks that each swallowed up a side of the original vinyl. While percussion-driven as one would expect, KROKODIL SOLO is very much a band effort that delves into the brackish waters where crafty progressive rock compositions meet head on with spacey Krautrock sensibilities.
Sounding nothing like the cheesy cover art would indicate, this album is actually excellent Krautrock that employs all the slow ratcheting up grooves that offer a multitude of variations and trippy guitar effects and spaced out electronic embellishments.Tracks:
