A chilling mid-air confrontation between NATO and Russia has sparked global alarm after British officials revealed Russian fighter jets dangerously intercepted an RAF surveillance aircraft over the Black Sea. The unarmed RC-135 Rivet Joint was conducting a NATO intelligence mission in international airspace when Russian Su-35 and Su-27 jets aggressively approached the aircraft. One Russian jet reportedly flew so close it disrupted the RAF plane’s autopilot system, while another made repeated high-speed passes within just six metres of the aircraft’s nose. UK officials condemned the manoeuvres as reckless, warning the encounter could easily have ended in a catastrophic collision between military aircraft.
