A social media influencer and student of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith in Varanasi was allegedly assaulted by two girls on the university campus following an argument after examinations.
The incident reportedly took place around 4:30 pm on Friday after fourth-semester exams concluded at the Faculty of Humanities.
The victim, identified as Vaishnavi, is a Mass Communication student and Instagram influencer with thousands of followers across two social media accounts. According to students, farewell celebrations were taking place on campus after the exams, with classmates writing messages on each other’s T-shirts and taking photos.
Vaishnavi alleged that while leaving the campus after her exam, a girl commented about her. In response, she allegedly told the girl to “shut up, fatty,” following which the situation escalated.
According to Vaishnavi, the girl, along with two others identified as Prachi Pandey and Aishwarya Pandey, allegedly chased her inside the campus, pulled her hair, threw her to the ground, and assaulted her.
Videos circulating on social media reportedly show two girls surrounding and beating Vaishnavi while several students gathered at the spot. Some female students attempted to intervene and stop the fight.
Vaishnavi alleged that despite the chaos, security guards present on campus did not intervene and remained silent spectators.
In an emotional video recorded after the incident, Vaishnavi claimed the assault was part of a conspiracy to defame her. She also alleged that the accused attempted to tear her clothes during the attack.
Students of the university said there had reportedly been an ongoing dispute between Vaishnavi and the other girls, which escalated into a physical altercation after both sides exchanged abuses on Friday.
Vaishnavi also claimed that the name of a young man has surfaced in connection with the dispute, though his identity has not yet been confirmed.
The influencer reportedly runs two Instagram accounts — “queen_of_hell18” with around 82,000 followers and “vaishnavii_official” with nearly 90,000 followers — where she posts content related to beauty products, lifestyle, and daily essentials.
Inspector Shivkant Mishra of Sigra police station said police are aware of the incident, but no formal complaint has been filed by either side so far.
“The matter is in cognisance. Information regarding the incident is being collected after speaking to the Chief Proctor,” the officer said.
