An ecological disaster has unfolded at East Delhi’s historic Sanjay Lake, where hundreds of fish have died due to a critical drop in water levels and oxygen depletion amid an intense heatwave. The 52-acre artificial wetland, managed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), dried up entirely in several stretches after the pipeline transporting treated water from the nearby Kondli Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) suffered a massive leakage. Local residents and environmentalists have blamed bureaucratic negligence and a severe lack of coordination between the DDA and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for failing to identify and repair the faulty infrastructure for months, leaving the local ecosystem completely devastated.
