A shocking case of alleged revenge violence has come to light from Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district, where a man and his associates allegedly hurled petrol bombs at a college student’s house after she cut ties with him upon learning about his criminal background.
The incident took place near Thondamuthur and was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the house.
According to police sources, the prime accused, identified as Karthik alias Mariappan from Chennai, was known to the woman since her college days. Their friendship reportedly developed into a relationship, but the woman later ended all contact after discovering that multiple criminal cases — including robbery and murder-related offences — were allegedly pending against him.
Police said Karthik allegedly became enraged after the woman refused to continue the relationship.
CCTV footage from the house shows two motorcycles stopping briefly outside the gate before petrol-filled bottles were allegedly thrown into the verandah of the house.
In the video, the first bike is seen arriving outside the residence, after which the pillion rider allegedly throws a petrol bomb into the compound. The explosive lands near a scooter and bicycle parked in the verandah before bursting into flames.
Seconds later, another motorcycle arrives and more petrol bombs are allegedly hurled into the house premises while the fire continues to spread.
Terrified voices, including that of a child, can reportedly be heard in the background as family members rush outside. An elderly man is also seen attempting to move the burning scooter and other vehicles away from the flames.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
Police said the accused and his associates also allegedly abused the woman’s father and issued death threats before fleeing the scene.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s father, Thondamuthur police registered an FIR and launched a manhunt for the accused, who are currently absconding.
Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas, which allegedly shows the accused carrying petrol-filled plastic bottles and purchasing multiple beer bottles before the attack.
Police said special teams have been formed to trace and arrest all those involved.
Further investigation is underway.
