A newly appointed principal (played by Morgan Freeman) arrives at a highly chaotic inner-city high school and immediately implements strict disciplinary action to restore order. On his first day, he publicly announces the expulsion of 300 students identified as disruptive to the learning environment.
What initially appears to be a bluff quickly turns into reality as security personnel begin escorting students out of the auditorium. The remaining students are left in shock as the principal reinforces a strict message about responsibility, discipline, and personal accountability for one’s future.
Following this decision, the school community reacts with strong backlash. Parents confront the administration, accusing the principal of denying students their right to education. However, the principal defends his actions, arguing that maintaining a productive learning environment requires removing consistent sources of disruption and also emphasizes the role of parents in shaping student behavior.
Despite the controversy, he continues restructuring the school’s culture through strict enforcement, active student engagement, and constant monitoring. He personally patrols the school with a megaphone, learns student identities, and builds direct communication with the student body while maintaining a highly disciplined environment.
His approach also leads to conflict with staff members. He fires the music teacher after a disagreement over student standards and begins confronting other faculty members who fail to meet expectations.
