सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने Election Commission की Special Intensive Revision यानी SIR exercise को संवैधानिक रूप से वैध ठहराते हुए nationwide voter verification अभियान को बड़ी कानूनी राहत दी है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि Article 324 के तहत निर्वाचन आयोग को मतदाता सूची को अपडेट और सत्यापित करने का पूरा अधिकार है ताकि स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष चुनाव सुनिश्चित किए जा सकें। अदालत ने यह भी स्पष्ट किया कि voter verification का मतलब किसी व्यक्ति की नागरिकता तय करना नहीं है। इस फैसले को भारत की चुनावी प्रक्रिया, मतदाता सूची प्रबंधन और आने वाले चुनावों के लिए बेहद महत्वपूर्ण माना जा रहा है।
