West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has issued a strict ultimatum to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the state, warning them to leave immediately under the government's new 'Detect, Delete, and Deport' policy. Following this statement, heavy crowds of suspected infiltrators gathered at the Hakimpur border checkpoint to return to Bangladesh. The state government has also initiated the setting up of special holding centres in various districts to temporarily house detained foreigners under MHA guidelines pending rapid deportation via the BSF.
