The Prime Minister says citizens are free to make their own choices within the law.
Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar was responding to a call for a national shutdown on Friday issued by Alyssa Phillip and fellow protesters in the 19 Bullets 19 protests campaign.
The group is urging citizens, trade unions and civil society groups to participate in a nationwide stoppage, claiming recent police actions threaten democratic freedoms.
