A video allegedly showing a young man and a young woman being assaulted at the Aligarh Exhibition Ground has gone viral on social media, triggering outrage and prompting police action.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of June 2, 2026, at the exhibition ground in Aligarh. According to allegations, a young man was surrounded and assaulted after he was seen with a young woman. The attackers are believed to include the woman's relatives and their associates.
The viral video shows the young man being beaten with belts, punches and kicks. When the young woman attempted to intervene and protect him, she was allegedly pushed and assaulted as well.
The incident, which occurred in a public place, has raised concerns over law and order and the growing tendency of individuals taking matters into their own hands instead of seeking legal remedies.
Following the circulation of the video, police launched an investigation to verify the authenticity of the footage, establish the exact location of the incident and identify those involved.
According to police, the complainant had visited the Mangal Bazaar exhibition with a friend on June 2 and was talking to an acquaintance when the accused allegedly abused and assaulted him with belts.
Based on the complaint, FIR No. 407/2026 was registered at Banna Devi Police Station under Sections 115(2), 352 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
As part of the investigation, police arrested three accused identified as Akash, son of Rajendra; Ankur, son of Ramji Lal; and Ashish, son of Jaipal. All three are residents of the Banna Devi police station area in Aligarh.
The arrests were made by the Banna Devi Police Station team from within the police station jurisdiction.
The police team involved in the operation included Sub-Inspector Ravi Pawan Kumar and Constable Rohit Kumar.
Police said further legal action is being taken and the investigation remains ongoing.
