The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has disclosed that it received information alleging former Congressman Mike Defensor offered P5 million to each of the so-called “18 ex-Marines” in exchange for their testimony on the flood control anomalies.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag said the claim came from an individual with direct ties to one of the supposed former Marines.
He said Defensor was specifically named as the source of the alleged financial offer meant to secure the witnesses’ appearance in a press conference. The NBI has since issued a subpoena to Defensor as it seeks clarification on the allegations.
