Why do we still say “sleep” in hypnosis…
when it has nothing to do with actual sleep?
Originally, early hypnotists truly believed they were inducing a kind of sleep state.
The word stayed.
But today, we know you are not asleep.
You are focused, concentrated… in an altered state of consciousness.
So why keep “sleep”?
Because it’s not the word that matters…
it’s what it triggers.
Over time, it became a shortcut.
A signal your brain recognizes instantly.
Like a symbolic “off” switch.
It’s not sleep.
It’s suggestion.
And sometimes… a single word is enough to shift your entire state.
