Audi Sport is introducing a world first to series production in the RS 5: quattro all-wheel drive with Dynamic Torque Control in the rear axle differential. The electromechanical torque vectoring system is the invisible conductor, orchestrating driving pleasure and safety like never before. The system comprises a central vehicle dynamics control unit and a high-performance torque vectoring system. It features a water-cooled, high-voltage actuator as a permanently excited synchronous motor with a power input of 8 kW and 40 Nm of torque, a mechanical superimposed transmission, and a conventional differential with a low locking value. This combination enables extremely fast and precise distribution of drive power between the rear wheels. Within just 15 milliseconds – roughly ten times faster than the blink of an eye – the electromechanical torque vectoring system can generate 90 percent of its full output of up to 2,000 Newton meters of differential torque, thus reacting to every driving situation.
