The Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha election has turned into a major political and legal controversy. Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan suffered a significant setback after the Supreme Court dismissed her petition and declined to intervene in the ongoing election process. The dispute began when the BJP objected to her nomination, alleging that she had failed to disclose a pending private complaint in Hyderabad in her election affidavit. Acting on the objection, the Returning Officer rejected her nomination.
The Congress challenged the decision in the Supreme Court, arguing that the rejection was unjustified. However, the Court cited Article 329 of the Constitution and ruled that judicial intervention during an active election process is not permissible. Following the verdict, all three BJP candidates were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh.
