Reefer Madness (1936) is a cult classic propaganda film originally produced to warn American parents and teenagers about the alleged dangers of marijuana use. The film follows a group of high school students who are lured into smoking cannabis by local dealers, subsequently descending into a spiral of violence, madness, and moral corruption. Directed by Louis Gasnier and initially funded by a church group, the film was later acquired and re-released by exploitation filmmaker Dwight Esper. Over the decades, "Reefer Madness" transformed from a cautionary tale into an unintentional comedy, becoming one of the most famous camp classics in film history.
