On June 12, coinciding with Russia Day, Ukraine executed a significant drone offensive targeting key oil refining sites in Tatarstan and the Samara region. Notable targets included the Taneko and Taif-NK refineries in Tatarstan, as well as the Togliattikauchuk chemical plant in Samara. Ukraine's military confirmed that all three facilities experienced fires. Furthermore, an additional report indicated that the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara, which was hit on June 10, has ceased operations entirely after suffering damage to its main AVT-4 and AVT-5 oil processing units, along with an RVS-2000 storage tank. Russia asserted that it intercepted 231 drones and enacted airspace restrictions in several areas, leading to the cancellation of festivities for Russia Day. According to Bloomberg, Russian refineries faced 38 attacks from January to May 2026, resulting in a 14% drop in refinery utilization, which is approximately 20% lower than levels before the conflict.
