Government meteorologists have announced the official emergence of El Niño in the tropical Pacific, which is gaining strength and could lead to significant weather disruptions across the United States this summer. According to NOAA and AccuWeather, much of the West, including California, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, and Utah, can expect higher than normal temperatures, raising the risk of wildfires. At the same time, the southern Plains and Mississippi Valley are likely to experience increased chances of severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding. The current severe weather season has already produced 2,392 storm reports in just three days. Experts caution that El Niño may escalate weather extremes until September.
