Church of England apologises for role in forced adoption

The Church of England has "profoundly" apologised to mothers and children for its role in forced adoptions for the first time.
Thousands of unmarried mothers were pressured into giving up their babies between 1949 and 1976. In a formal apology the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Mullaly told victims "You have nothing to be ashamed of. The shame is ours".
