Pope Leo, first Augustinian pontiff, visits Pavia shrine of St Augustine

Pope Leo, the first pontiff from the Augustinian order, visited on Saturday, June 20, the northern Italian city of Pavia. The pope, who previously described himself as a "son of St. Augustine," prayed at the Basilica of San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro, where the saint’s remains have been kept since 722. During his trip, the pontiff also visited the National Center for Oncological Hadrontherapy and greeted the crowd in Piazza Duomo. As the final stop, the Pope travelled to Sant’Angelo Lodigiano, the birthplace of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, whom the Vatican named the patron saint of immigrants in 1950 for her work with immigrants in the United States.
