De la Espriella campaigned on a strict "law and order" platform, promising to scrap peace negotiations with illegal armed groups, launch a military crackdown on drug cartels, and build jungle mega-prisons. While supporters celebrated the shift toward security and economic freedom, Cepeda’s camp has demanded an audit of the voting software, and isolated post-election protests have already broken out.
