भोजपुर के चर्चित भरत तिवारी एनकाउंटर मामले में सुप्रीम कोर्ट से बड़ा झटका लगा है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मामले में तत्काल सुनवाई करने से इनकार कर दिया। जनहित याचिका अधिवक्ता विशाल तिवारी द्वारा दाखिल की गई थी, जिसमें एनकाउंटर की जांच Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) से कराने, घटना में शामिल पुलिसकर्मियों के खिलाफ एफआईआर दर्ज करने तथा रिटायर्ड न्यायाधीश की निगरानी में जांच समिति गठित करने की मांग की गई थी। हालांकि, शीर्ष अदालत ने फौरन सुनवाई से मना करते हुए याचिकाकर्ता को मामले का उल्लेख (मेंशनिंग) सुप्रीम कोर्ट के रजिस्ट्रार के समक्ष करने का निर्देश दिया।
