In light of the initial ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran established from June 15 to 18, 2026, Iran still holds around 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% — a quantity adequate for the potential creation of five nuclear bombs at weapons-grade levels, as indicated by experts in nuclear non-proliferation. Although American military operations in June 2025 resulted in the destruction of several Iranian nuclear sites, the remaining uranium stockpile was not eliminated. Furthermore, the agreement lacks a mechanism to enforce Iran's pledge against developing nuclear weapons, leaving this critical matter unaddressed during the 60-day negotiation period.
