Check out this tense moment a runner and his six-month-old puppy are confronted by a fearless coyote in a Canadian park.
Andrew Boechler, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada captured the unnerving encounter while jogging with his puppy, Cooper, in Fish Creek Provincial Park.
The video shows the coyote emerging from the bushes and approaching the pair from less than 10 steps away while Cooper stopped to sniff the ground.
Andrew initially yelled in an attempt to scare the animal away, but the coyote remained unfazed and even moved toward the puppy.
Fearing an attack, Andrew activated his smart glasses to record the encounter and threw a rock towards but not striking the animal before grabbing a stick and advancing toward it.
Only then did the coyote retreat into the trees, although it continued to follow the pair for several minutes.
Andrew said several people later told him there was a known coyote den in the area, suggesting to him that the animal may have been a mother protecting her pups.
Andrew said: “Cooper seemed to have no sense of the danger he just thought he’d met a new friend.”
Viewers weighed in on the encounter in the comments.
One wrote: “Brother acting like it’s a timber wolf.”
Another added: “Apparently this behaviour is a sign she has a pup in the area and she's trying to bluff charge and escort you away from the baby.”
