The Pueblo Incident was a major Cold War crisis on January 23, 1968, when North Korean forces attacked and seized the USS Pueblo, an American signals intelligence and spy ship, in the Sea of Japan. North Korea captured the lightly armed vessel and its 83 crew members, sparking an 11-month geopolitical standoff.
