Meteorologist Ted Buehner from KIRO Newsradio, who dedicated many years to the National Weather Service in Seattle and personally experienced the 2021 heat dome in the Pacific Northwest that resulted in numerous fatalities, is raising an early alert regarding the existing weather pattern. Forecasts from European models indicate that temperature anomalies at the 850-millibar level over Puget Sound are 14 to 16 degrees Celsius higher than the norm, exhibiting similarities to the atmospheric conditions of the 2021 incident. Buehner pointed out that the notable upper-level ridge characteristic of 2021, which led to Seattle reaching 108 degrees on June 28, is currently absent. He cautions that this heat wave merits close observation, especially since many residents in the Pacific Northwest do not have central air conditioning.
