Emergency monitoring has been initiated for the Anchor Lake Dam in Pearl River County, Mississippi, subsequent to over 20 inches of rainfall from Tropical Storm Arthur. Notably, Cottonport and Plaucheville in Louisiana's Avoyelles Parish recorded rainfall amounts of 29 and 22.5 inches, respectively. As a precaution, authorities evacuated thirty residences, citing concerns that further precipitation could lead to spillway overloads and endanger the dam's integrity. Tragically, a county road worker lost their life in Franklin County during the cleanup efforts. The National Guard, alongside state wildlife officials, has been involved in conducting water rescues across numerous counties as vehicles become stranded in inundated areas.
