Venezuela is currently facing a devastating natural disaster after two powerful earthquakes struck the country's northern coastal region and the capital, Caracas, just 39 seconds apart. Measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, the back-to-back quakes caused widespread destruction across several areas. At least 32 people have been confirmed dead, while more than 700 others have been injured. Authorities fear that hundreds may still be trapped beneath collapsed buildings and debris. The earthquakes brought down several multi-story structures, cracked roads, and severely disrupted power and communication services. The worst damage has been reported in La Guaira state, which has been officially declared a disaster zone. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, but repeated aftershocks and damaged infrastructure are making efforts extremely challenging. Several countries, including the United States, have offered assistance. The USGS has also warned that the final death toll could rise significantly as the full scale of the disaster becomes clear.
