Parisians rush to buy fans and air-conditioners amid historic heatwave
Around 50 people wait in front of closed shutters for the Darty electronics store near République Square in Paris to open, hoping to buy a fan or an air conditioner as a historic heatwave sweeps across France. For the electrical goods retailer, the heatwave has led to a surge in sales and the arrival of a new customer base as the day's supply of cooling products sells out within half an hour. "We were told we had to be here earlier in order to be served, and here we are, waiting," says a customer outside the store.
