Authorities in northern California have uncovered the remains of 117 dogs at Miranda's Rescue Animal Sanctuary, a facility that described itself as a "no-kill" animal rescue, triggering an extensive investigation into alleged animal cruelty, fraud and theft. Investigators excavated open fields on the property after receiving information that animals may have been buried in mass graves. During the search, officials recovered the remains of 117 dogs, many showing evidence of gunshot wounds, along with about 600 dog collars, dozens of skulls and hundreds of bones. The investigation began after authorities found that hundreds of animals admitted to the rescue could not be accounted for. Most of the recovered dogs were microchipped, and forensic teams are now working to identify them. The sanctuary's owner has denied wrongdoing and insists the rescue followed a no-kill policy. No criminal charges have been filed as investigators continue examining the evidence.
