Part 2: One of the best known secrets in Nintendo video games may be shown as a pattern of information in the 1985 sci-fi comedy film Back To The Future. The first world (Grass Land) fortress location of one of three warp whistles hidden throughout the video game Super Mario Bros. 3 was famously shown in the ending tournament scene of 1989 adventure comedy The Wizard.
- Jason Hervey who plays a younger version of Marty's uncle, Milton, has a link to The Wizard's Fred Savage via his role in ABC TV series The Wonder Years (1988-1993). You can see him in the dinner scene at around 45 minutes. His character wears a Davey Crockett style fur hat which I thought similar to Mario's Racoon suit form seen in SMB3.
- Looking at the scenes surrounding this one, about 5 minutes prior, when Marty chases his father out of the diner, he finds him in a neighborhood up in a tree peeping in a window across the street with binoculars. A few elements here may match up to the famed Mario 3 fortress whistle area: The tree drops a few leaves, possibly analogous Mario's super leaf. A door on a house behind Marty has windows with a shape like those in this Mario 3 scene. The windows are divided into 8 segments and there are 3 of them in this area. The speed the Delorean time machine car has to get up to travel into the past or future is 88 miles per hour.
The super leaf located at the end of the passage way in the Mario 3 fortress is key enabling Mario flight ability to reach the secret doorway in a hidden area above the screen frame / ceiling. A skeletal Koopa Troopa enemy turtle character is located in the fortress area called "Dry Bones".
