Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra alleged that BJP workers threw eggs and brinjals at a building in Krishnanagar, West Bengal, where she was holding a meeting with party workers on Wednesday.
According to Moitra, a group of protesters gathered outside the venue, waved black flags, raised "Go Back" slogans and hurled eggs and brinjals towards the building. During a Facebook Live broadcast, she was seen using a curtain to shield herself as the objects were thrown towards the window.
Moitra alleged that the protesters were "BJP goons" and claimed police and CRPF personnel reached the spot around 15 minutes after the incident began.
She also alleged that despite informing senior police officials, the crowd was not dispersed immediately. In a post on X, she claimed police watched the situation for nearly two hours while the mob continued protesting.
The incident comes on the same day the Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal government to submit a report on recent egg-hurling incidents targeting TMC leaders and asked authorities to take strict action against those responsible. The court observed that such incidents had become a "social evil".
This is the latest in a series of similar incidents targeting TMC leaders since the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Earlier, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee and several other party leaders were also targeted with eggs during public appearances.
The BJP has denied allegations of orchestrating such attacks.
