My grandpa...!!
Grandpa was so kind, and I loved him so much.
When I was still little and went to visit his
house,
he always greeted me with his best smile,
saying, “Hey, you came!”
I loved that smile so much.
Whenever I visited, he would almost always take
me to the river near his house.
When I nearly drowned in that river, he
desperately saved me, crying and screaming,
with his frail, old body.
I'm sorry. You must have been so heavy.
Once, when I heard from Mom that Grandpa had
been hospitalized, I was surprised,
but I brushed it off, thinking it probably
wasn't that serious...
But it turned out to be a really serious
illness... When I heard he couldn't be saved,
I couldn't even cry. I just stood there,
stunned and frozen.
While Grandpa was hospitalized, I visited him
almost every day.
Each time I went, he looked thinner, his
complexion worse, and his once thick hair had
fallen out from the side effects.
One day, when I visited as usual, Grandpa
seemed even more listless than before.
He told me, “Grandpa is going to die soon.”
I cried and yelled, “Why would you say that?!”
Realizing I'd overreacted, I apologized, saying
“I'm sorry.”
Then Grandpa said,
“I'm not! You're so full of life. You gave me
strength.”
The next day, Grandpa passed away and went to
heaven.
That day at school, my homeroom teacher told me,
“I heard your grandpa passed away.”
I burst into tears right there in front of
everyone.
When I got to the hospital, everyone had already
gathered and was crying.
Seeing how much everyone loved Grandpa made me
feel warm inside.
Grandpa... Are you happy in heaven?
Everyone here is doing well.
I'll come visit your house again soon.
Wait for me, okay?
