A formidable weather system poses a significant threat to 12 states in the northern Plains, Midwest, and Great Lakes regions during this Fourth of July weekend. The NOAA Storm Prediction Center has issued warnings for supercells that could generate winds reaching 100mph, along with large hail and potential isolated tornadoes. This system is fueled by a hazardous shortwave trough, extreme instability with CAPE values between 3,000–4,000 J/kg, and a strong nocturnal jet stream. States at risk include the Dakotas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. The National Weather Service is advising residents to remain indoors and stay updated on emergency notifications throughout the holiday weekend.
