Every Celebrity Who Died In Front Of Their Fans
August 25th, 2007. It’s the opening day of the La Liga season in Spain. A packed stadium in Seville, the air electric with anticipation. On the field is 22-year-old Antonio Puerta, a hometown hero, a rising star for Sevilla FC. He’s already a cult legend, having scored the winning goal that sent them to their first-ever UEFA Cup final the year before. He’s at the peak of his physical powers. Or so everyone thought.
Around the 35th minute of the match, the cameras catch him jogging back. And then, he just… slows down. He bends over, puts his hands on his knees, and collapses onto the turf. It’s a shocking moment. The game stops. His teammates rush to his side, panic etched on their faces. Medical staff sprint onto the field. For a few terrifying moments, he’s in cardiac arrest. They use a defibrillator, they perform CPR, and somehow… they bring him back.
