Sony has announced that beginning in 2028, all new PlayStation releases will be digital-only, marking the end of an era that started with the original PlayStation in 1994.
In this video, I break down what this means for gamers, collectors, game preservation, used game sales, and whether an all-digital future is really inevitable.
But that's only part of the discussion.
I also take a look at retro gaming and explain why we actually know surprisingly little about the complete libraries of many older consoles. Lost prototypes, regional exclusives, obscure budget releases, cancelled games, and forgotten hidden gems are still being uncovered decades later. Even systems we think we know inside and out may still have undiscovered games waiting to be found.
Is physical media really disappearing for good?
And what does that mean for preserving gaming history?
