A suburban footballer who was seriously injured during a match in Melbourne at the weekend has died. Nathan Fitzgerlad suffered critical head injuries when he hit a hard cricket pitch on Saturday. The tragedy has refreshed calls to look at the safety of sporting ovals around the country.
