ईरान की ओर से होर्मुज़ जलडमरूमध्य (Strait of Hormuz) में वाणिज्यिक जहाज़ों पर कथित मिसाइल हमलों की खबरों ने दुनिया के सबसे अहम ऊर्जा मार्गों में से एक पर तनाव को और बढ़ा दिया है। रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार, क़तर के स्वामित्व वाले एलएनजी टैंकर अल रेकय्यात (Al Rekayyat) पर कथित रूप से मिसाइल हमला हुआ, जिससे जहाज़ में आग लग गई। वहीं, एक दूसरे व्यापारी जहाज़ के भी निशाना बनने की खबर है। हालांकि, यूके मैरीटाइम ट्रेड ऑपरेशंस (UKMTO) के अनुसार इस घटना में किसी के हताहत होने की सूचना नहीं है।
यह घटना ऐसे समय में सामने आई है जब अमेरिका और ईरान के बीच संघर्षविराम (Ceasefire) बेहद नाज़ुक स्थिति में है और समुद्री मार्गों को लेकर दोनों पक्षों के बीच तनाव फिर से बढ़ रहा है। इससे पहले ईरानी रिवोल्यूशनरी गार्ड कॉर्प्स (IRGC) कथित तौर पर जहाज़ों को अमेरिका समर्थित समुद्री ट्रांजिट कॉरिडोर का इस्तेमाल न करने की चेतावनी दे चुका है। इस कथित हमले ने वैश्विक ऊर्जा सुरक्षा, अंतरराष्ट्रीय व्यापारिक जहाज़ों की सुरक्षा और पूरे पश्चिम एशिया में तनाव के और अधिक बढ़ने की आशंकाओं को फिर से तेज़ कर दिया है।
