Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated again after President Donald Trump declared that the ceasefire agreement between the two countries is effectively finished. Speaking during the NATO summit, Trump accused Iran of violating the understanding reached in June and signaled the possibility of further military action.
"We hit them very hard last night, and we'll probably hit them hard again tonight," Trump told reporters. He also dismissed the agreement, saying, "I think it's over. I don't want to deal with them anymore," while accusing Iran's leaders of repeatedly breaking commitments.
Iran swiftly responded, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi writing that his country would answer "with action: fearlessly and with great valour" rather than words. Iranian officials also warned that any new US strikes would trigger an immediate response.
The latest exchange follows renewed attacks involving US forces and Iranian targets, raising fears of another escalation despite earlier efforts to reduce hostilities. The United States has also restored sanctions on Iranian oil sales, while both sides continue exchanging accusations of violating the ceasefire terms. Although US negotiators remain available for talks, Trump questioned the value of further negotiations, stating that continuing discussions would be "a waste of time."
